Pharmaceutical Marketing: Posts & News Of Note
Over the past few days, a few bloggers have developed very enjoyable posts on the subject of pharmaceutical marketing.  Following is a sampling of my favorites with a bit of shameless self-promotion thrown in.

WLF Challenges FDA Warning Letters; Fair Balance Regulations:  John Mack of Pharma Marketing Blog takes a look at the Washington Legal Foundation's (WLF) efforts to shift FDA policy on DTC advertising.  After examining WLF's arguments, he thinks the organization is suffering from a bout of "wooly-headed" thinking.

Drug Representatives: Valuable Resource Or Subversive Force?:  Dr. Robert M. Centor, author of the popular blog DB's Medical Rants, takes on the issue of pharmaceutical detailing.  His posts  (here, here and here) have generated a lot of vitrol and some well-reasoned arguments for and against pharmaceutical sales represenatives.

Drug Company Access To Prescribing Records: The Pros & Cons:  In recent weeks, much has been made of efforts to block drug company access to physicians' prescribing data.  In this article the San Francisco Chronicle's Jake Whitney examines the issues.

Pharma's Coming Mass Brand Extinctions: According to Forbes magazine "by 2011, a quarter of current drug sales in the U.S. will be eaten away by less expensive generic pills as medicines lose patent protection. Between 2007 and 2011, more than 80 medicines are expected to face this fate."  Clearly, with so many medications going off patent, there will be an increased emphasis on marketing on-patent medications and reducing the price of branded generics.  John Mack takes a look at the coming brand extinction here.

Past, Present & Future Trends In Pharmaceutical Communications:  My firm, Envision Solutions has released a new report looking at the evolution of pharmaceutical marketing over the past 140 years.  Some of the material contained in this report is based on articles posted to this blog.  Click here to learn more about it.
