I just stumbled upon an interesting blog search engine that could be of some (albeit limited) use to communications pros and others. Opinmind is a new
service that tracks 5.5 million blogs. Its most interesting feature is that it conducts a keyword analysis of blogs to determine what bloggers think about different subjects.
Admittedly, this search engine is very unscientific. In addition, after perusing Opinmind's statistics, it is clear that a human touch is needed to interpret them. However, if it improves, it may provide some valuable anecdotal information about what bloggers think about different subjects. I conducted a few searches to test the service and this is what I learned about a limited number of bloggers' opinions.
The Pharmaceutical Industry: 21% positive, 79% negative (10 results)
The FDA: 43% positive, 57% negative (27 results)
Pfizer: 65% positive, 35% negative (17 results)

Fard - it's a great concept but it seems like they're tracking a very small number of blogs and thus I question the validity of even the sensitivities. Might be a good partner for a Technorati or Google Blogs, blog search engines that have the data.
