In 2006, I wrote a blog post focusing on why I thought Genzyme should start a
blog where it would discuss its charitable efforts related to Cerezyme, its expensive Gaucher treatment. While I don’t think my post had much to do with their decision, Genzyme quietly launched a blog last year on this very topic. Titled, “Face to Face,” the blog highlights the efforts of longtime Genzyme employee Tomye Tierney. She serves as the company’s Vice President and General Manager of Emerging Markets.
Currently, the blog features three entries about Tierney’s global travels and her efforts to help Gaucher patients. Her latest entry focuses on a trip she took to Vietnam in April 2007. While there, she visited three patients who have been receiving Cerezyme free of charge for the past three years.
While people have not yet commented on Tierney’s travels and Genzyme’s efforts, this may change as the blog becomes more well-known. Overall, Genzyme’s blog seems to be an interesting and worthwhile effort.
