Recently, I’ve been working on an exciting (somewhat scary) project that’s been
keeping me up at night and stretching my creative abilities to the limit. I’m not going to reveal what is it just yet because it’s not baked. And, I like to ensure things are well-done before they are introduced to the world. But, I’m excited about it and can’t wait roll it out (watch this space carefully for more information). It may fail, I may be crazy for trying, but I’m having a great time making it happen.
This unnamed project has got me thinking a lot about risk-taking. Todd Defren published a wonderful post on his blog a few weeks ago about how adversity (i.e., the recession), pushes people to break the mold and do things they would ordinarily not do. He urged readers to “take a gamble” and if it fails, one can “always blame the recession.”
Well, I think Defren’s absolutely right. When times get tough, it’s not the time to put your head in the sand, you’ve got to get up and go big . . . or stay home.
So, ask yourself a question: Are you stretching yourself until you break? Are you trying new things, engaging in rampant experimentation, shattering the mold, and yourself, in the process? In these times, more than ever, safe is stupid. Fear is fantastic.
Stretch yourself until you break. Then, get up and do it again. I promise, you’ll be a lot happier.
P.S.:

Well now that you'e peaked my interest I'm anxious to see this new project. Very true about tough times . . . they definitely bring out creativity and innovation.
