The Depression Is Real Podcast: Wyeth’s View

Earlier this year I spoke with Wyeth’s Gwen Fisher about the Depression is Realdownandup.png Coalition and the mental health-related podcast, The Down & Up Show.  Following are her remarks about the podcast.  To read part one of this interview, please click here.

1. Why does Wyeth believe that the podcast is important and valuable?

We feel that the podcast is important and valuable because it is an extension of what we’ve already been doing – in terms of educating the public that depression is a real and treatable illness.  However, I should emphasize that it was the Coalition’s decision to develop the podcast – not Wyeth’s.

2. How is Wyeth contributing to the production of the podcast?

[The public relations firm] Porter Novelli is helping to produce the podcast.  Part of their role is to provide suggestions on how to expand and improve it.

3. What has been the response to the podcast thus far internally,
externally?

Members of the Coalition are happy about how the podcast is proceeding thus far.  It’s kind of too early to say what kind of external response we’ve been getting because were still early in the podcast’s run.

The podcast is something new for the mental health arena, as it relates to depression.  There may be other ways to approach [depression education], but [running a podcast series] is what the Coalition’s decided to do at this point.
